Continuing on with my suggested key points you should consider before you start designing your home garden. This is week is #10. The last for this design series. Create Layers With Your Plants
Planting out species that vary in their mature size and shape will create interest in the garden. Height selection may be determined by the position from which you view the garden from. If the garden bed is only viewed from one side, you could layer your plants from tallest in the back to shortest in the front to provide depth. In the garden this weekend....... GROW TIP My orna

In the garden this weekend.......
GROW TIP
My ornamental grasses are all getting a hair cut this week. They will be cut to ground level with the hedge trimmer. I usually try to wrap a rope around the bulk of the foliage so it gets pulled in tight almost like a top notch pony tail. This makes the cutting a bit easier with less surface area to cover.IN THE VEGGIE GARDEN
I’m making plans for my Summer crops. I think this year i’m just focusing on Corn, Capsicum, Zucchini and Cucumbers. Plus of course tomatoes. I’m still trying to cull my list down to fewer varieties. It is not an easy decision to make.IN THE GARDEN SHED
I am aiming to clean, sharpen and oil all of my hand tools this week. I normally use a linseed oil on my tools. For my small hand tools like trowels, forks and hoes after cleaning, I will fill up a bucket of sand and store this pushed into the sand.

This week has been a busy week with planting at two of our garden projects, mainly tree plantings for wind breaks, avenue driveway plantings and a few specimen trees have been added to garden areas. I do feel like the days are getting a little longer, which means spring is on its way. Continuing on with my suggested key points you should consider before you start designing your home garden. This is week is #8Create Functional Spaces
Designate specific areas in your garden for different activities, such as a seating area for relaxation, a dining area for entertaining, or a play zone for children. This helps create a purposeful and organized garden layout. Each area should seamlessly flow into each other. This can be achieved by using the same or similar materials throughout the space or you could repeat some of the same plants throughout each area. The repetition of materials or plants will give a cohesiveness to the space. Ideally you could have multiple functions for each space. A fire pit area in winter could be a water feature in summer. Timber benches might double as storage areas under the seat.
